SC&C Soft Skills for ExecutivesExecutive employers are constantly looking to fill jobs with people that have a myriad of skills. These people have soft skills and past experiences that equally bring them to the forefront of all activity. Soft skills are defined as a professional statute, punctuality, and interpersonal actions. All too often they are taken for granted in the executive job search.

Applying for the job with your stellar resume and resource skills is only half the battle. If you send a cover letter with a misspelling that will demonstrate your lack of professionalism, not paying attention to details, and being dismissive of important factors. Strong soft skills make you the job candidate that gives you an edge over other job seekers. Focusing on attitude and presentation skills will separate you from the majority of other seekers. Hiring managers will see a person who has a great attention to detail in a better light than a seasoned professional who hands in sloppy work.

Three Key Soft Skills

Attitude

SC&C Positive attitude can get you a job It is the way you look to others in the workplace and home. If you have experience, but are constantly uptight or rude to people, the odds are that the potential employer will be less than thrilled to hire you. They do not want to deal with it.

Practice making a great impression by focusing on a positive attitude with everyone around you. The person you see at the restaurant, the people you meet each day, all of these interactions should inspire you to keep a smile on your face. The potential employer will see that you are happy, polite, and have a great work ethic. The attitude acts as a sounding board to the rest of the interview and orientation process. The right hiring manager will take into account all of these aspect.

Presentation

It is part of the hiring process. The application has been received, and then as you progress in line behind other successful applicants who are wanting the position you can begin to you assess your presence. Remember to get there on time. Punctuality is an often overlooked aspect. Especially when the application is for an executive job candidate.

It might go hand in hand because in the past you were someone who commanded a large company that you do not have to show up on time. But guess what? We are in the game and it is part of the details of the job. Dress appropriately; keep the Hawaiian shirts and boat shoes back home.

Job Skills

This is the time to brag about everything that you have done and can do. It might seem boorish to you, but it’s part of the job-acquiring process for all candidates and it is there for a reason. Meaning, do it tell them every single thing you can do and do well, there has to be at least 500 single word skills that you can name. The key skills they are looking for is problem solving, team player, strong work ethic, flexibility, and working under pressure.

You could be the most intelligent person in a room, but without speaking in a way that helps people to understand then you will not be able to move anyone or anything. Thus your skills are useless. The human brain only consumes three chunks of information at home in short term memory, in some cases seven is the limit. But following the rule of three during your interview and highlighting your social skills in a way that brings your leadership to the forefront will get you on the ladder to success.

The original definition of soft skills refers to the emotional intelligence of the person. In most cases it really defines the customer or face-to-face tactics and interactions that you as the executive candidate can display. “Hard skills will get you the interview, but soft skills will get you the job.” reports the UK Guardian.
